The Uncool Post of Nostalgia

We’ve come really far, to the age of “cool”. It’s where minds tick like time bombs and hearts beat out of time. We’ve progressed. (“Have we?” Is the question I always hear at the back of my head, but I simply ignore it like Viagra spam mails I receive in my inbox)

Yes, we’ve come really far.

I write this while listening to this song:

Yes, I listen to similar songs especially at nights. They give me a sense of calm by taking me back to the outdated era when “progress” hadn’t hit us. Ah, yes those times were about everything that touched the heart. Mushiness, Humor, Bright clothing. Our minds weren’t interfering in whatever we indulged in.

There were songs like this:

this:

and this:

Yes, these were the dance moves of those days that now seem outrageous.

Then there were songs like

this:

this:

and this:

And every other song was similar. Songs which can be today be easily tagged as uncool, boring, sentimental and similar fancy words we use being the awesome, epic and legendary people that we've become.

Why? Why is this difference? Why the beautiful of one generation becomes the funny of the other? Because we’re constantly filling the gaps in our lives in different ways. Gaps in our lives that were once upon a time, filled with contentment of the heart are now filled with the stimulation of the mind. It reminds me of the hippie era which gradually changed before going crazy. Psycho-actives that were initially used for mind expansion and spirituality became “cool-quotient” increasers with the entry of cocaine and thereby became a source of mere satisfaction and thrill.

The similar cycle is followed today the crazy hippies that we were once upon a time in the 90s are not what we are today, we have learnt the language of “cool” and everything that we see, hear or read passes through the strict filters of the mind with or without reaching our hearts.

With progress, our minds are opening up, and our hearts are closing.

Yes, we’re in age of cool, on our way to constant progress. But I don’t know if there are many, who still have open hearts that still belong to the old days of backwardness. I don’t know if there are many, who prefer listening to those “uncool” songs on their headphones late at night, to smile a little. If you are one, drop a comment with any Youtube link that you may open up at nights, to smile a little thinking, how good were we without any progress.

PS- This post may not make sense to many, and may seem uncool. That's the point, it doesn't make sense (today) it honestly is uncool (today)
